Dr Ben Carpenter
Dr Ben is our import from "the northern island"
Hailing originally from the onion, potato, and motor-racing capital of New Zealand - Pukekohe (with a short stint in the "kumura capital" in the far north- Dargaville), he attended Pukekohe High School where he played some sweet cello music for 2 years with the New Zealand Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra.
6 years at medical school at Otago University saw him graduate with a MBChB medical degree in 2004. Since then he has worked in hospital medicine in Auckland and Whangarei, and more recently in General Practice in Wellington and Wairarapa.
When he is not at Durham Health the young doctor occupies his time running the streets and hills, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, and dreaming about shiney red BMWs.
He ranks his most satisfying achievements as including a time of just over 1hr and 20mins in the Auckland Half Marathon in 2007, as well as completing the Stewart Island Northern Circuit walking track in 2003 in atrocious weather, and most recently going against the trend of immigration from Christchurch.
His future goals include working in developing countries overseas, as well as gaining his Fellowship within the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioner.
