What’s a Health Coach?

Health Coaches (HCs) are here to help you take an active part in your health and reach your overall health goals. We are experienced in helping individuals and families gain the knowledge, skills, tools, and confidence to help with all sorts of mental wellbeing and behaviour change.

We can help you make changes to health behaviours, and this can help with:

-         Diabetes and pre-diabetes

-         Sleep and insomnia

-         Breathing issues, including Asthma

-         Heart Health, including High and Low Blood pressure, High Cholesterol, and ways to manage long term heart health.

-         General issues around fitness and movement

-         Long term conditions that affect your health and wellbeing

 We can also:

-         Help with stresses and problems of living.

-         Help with ongoing health concerns and complex health needs.

-         Help you connect with other services in the community.

-         Offer emotional support and follow-up when needed.

Who can come see me?

Anyone who is registered with this practice.  Health Coaches can see people of all ages and at all stages of their lives, and we can help with all sorts of mental wellbeing and behaviour change.

Should I see the Health Coach or the HIP?

There is a lot of overlap between HIP and HC roles, so you can see either one of us – or both of us!  We can support you with any lifestyle concerns impacting your general health and wellbeing.  If in doubt, just come see whoever is available; we can all help.

What can you expect?

We will spend about half an hour together, put our heads together and make a plan around something that’s giving you difficulty or exciting you.  If you are unsure where to begin we can break the steps down and celebrate the wins!

What does it cost?

HCs are fully funded through Te Tumu Waiora and Pegasus Health.

How long do I have to wait?

HC always have same day appointments, so you can often come straight from your GP to see the HC or HIP.

Why am I a HC?

I am passionate to empower you, the patient! I love this role and spent many years making sure I have the skill set to be able to help.

I don’t tell you what to do: I work alongside you at the speed and the way that feels right for you.
